Crossing borders
The border I crossed was a literal border, it wasn't imaginary or an invisible one this was a real border a border into another country. It's hard to believe how different a place can be but once you get there you see how different it is from the place you have lived for almost your whole life. The Philippines, my place of birth, my home, I left when I was about 2 so I don't remember much from there. But I know it will always be home and will always be a part of me. The summer before my senior year was the first time I was going to be home since I had left. The only bad part. about going home was the flight time. I think it was like 18 hours to South Korea and then another 5 hours to the Philippines but believe me, it was worth it. The Philippines a third world country is so different from the United States it's difficult to even explain really. But you'd never know the people in the city and on the islands lived in a third world country, anybody and everybody you talked to was really nice but the way everyone carried themselves was also different. It's like you walked into another universe being able to go back home. The islands of the Philippines were beautiful, unlike anything I have ever seen before. The islands were so beautiful all the dogs roamed free on the islands. Imagine that going to an island with clear blue see-through water and then going back on the beach with hundreds of dogs on it, dream come true for me. In my first essay on borders, I said that countries are different because of the way the lines separated them. And I choose to stand by this the lines or oceans that separate countries are the reason why they are different and sometimes it can be different for the better. The Philippines is a third world country with too much poverty and pollution in the city. The capital city of Manila is threatened by overcrowding and pollution. While many countries have nice looking laces and areas sometimes the bad parts are bypassed. Such as when I see ads for the Philippines it's always to go to the islands or they only show the islands never the city where things are continuing to worsen and the larger countries are doing nothing to help, the united states even have a base on the Philippines. I think a lot of the times in countries such as the Philippines the poverty and pollution a lot of the time is never really looked at until large amounts of people start dying.
